I have been a marine surveyor since 1967 and am a Senior Accredited Marine Surveyor and charter member of the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS). I am also a Certified Marine Surveyor member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS). I am on the 11th issue of my 200 ton Master's license. (Download my professional resume (23K PDF) here.)
In addition to my commercial work I have been a sailor and pleasure boat owner for over 50 years as well as being involved in yacht repair and survey work.
I have been an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 20 years as an AUXOP, Coxwain, Public Education Instructor, Vessel Examiner, and a National Staff Member to the Boating investigating Committee of NASBLA. I am also a long time member of the Bay Yacht Club of Corpus Christi, TX.
My own boat is the "Dixieland" shown to the left, a custom 30' cruiser built in epoxy saturated plywood. With only about 1 foot draft it is a great bayou and backwater get-away boat and serves as our "mobile office". You will probably see the "Dixieland" on patrol with the USCG Auxiliary on Galveston Bay. My son and I also share a Pearson 26, berthed in Corpus Christi Municipal Marina.
The Flicka, shown here to the right, was another of my small yachts. In 1982 I sailed it in the Galveston-Veracruz Race and finished in the middle of the fleet.
For many years I owned and sailed this Cape Dory Typhoon (on left). Last year I traded it for the Pearson 26.
One of my earliest boats was this '52 model Chris Craft 34, which taught me a lot about wood repair and construction.
In the early 90's I was the professional Captain of this 90' aluminum motor yacht spending most of the time cruising the Bahamas. This opportunity came about after conducting a pre-purchase survey of the vessel for the new owner.
